![]() ![]() Hopefully this will help some other poor bastard that’s faced with trying to get SynScan working on the Mac operating system. There is no reason that information has to be strewn across 30 separate webpages - all of people having trouble and trying all sorts of different things. Time to send some hatemail to Sky-Watcher. You can then select the SynScan mount and control it. You can then set that port as the one to connect to with the SynScan mount in any program - KStars, CloudMakers INDIGO Server, etc. Once this driver is installed, a new port will become available: /dev/cu.usbserial. The Mac Prolific Driver can be found here: There is absolutely no mention of this whatsoever on the Sky-Watcher page - they just crammed this hardware into the controller and then didn't tell anyone how to use it. This convenient FTDI USB to Serial adapter allows direct connection of your iOptron handset to your computer allowing for firmware updates and computer control. It turns out that the built-in RS232 to USB converter requires its own unique driver on both Mac and Windows, but Windows will automatically download it and Mac/linux will not. With the V5 SynScan hand controller, the USB port on the bottom is actually a built-in RS232 to USB converter - much like the USB-RS232 cables that people often buy on here. Serial cable pinouts for different brands of mounts is almost always different – even if they use the same connectors.I fixed it. Make sure it’s correct for iOptron mounts. But the connection is on the mount, not the HC.Īl least with all my iOptron mounts, the serial connection on the bottom of iOptron HC’s is just for firmware updates.Īnd if your mount has a USB connection on the mount itself, then you’ll need a serial to USB adapter (I highly recommend one that has a FTDI chipset).Īnd the other potential problem is the pinout of your RS-232 serial cable. There’s a RS-232 port on the mount – or sometimes a USB port on the mount. Just about all other mounts connect directly to the mount. Meade and Celestron and SkyWatcher mounts connect serial through their handsets. ![]() ![]() But it seems that a lot of iOptron mount users are used to how Meade and Celestron and SkyWatcher mounts connect using serial connections – and not how iOptron and almost all other brands connect to serial connections. All my iOptron mounts are older than yours, and I use Windows. ![]()
